Motorola Droid 2.1 Update To Include Multitouch In Browser?
Engadget has posted what is expected to be packed in the Motorola Droid 2.1 update. Here are the dirty deets:
- Looks like it’ll be based off the Android2.1-update1 build that Google put out last week on the Nexus One.
- And that means expect multitouch in the browser, to go along with the pinch-to-zoom that was enabled on the Droid for Google Maps just last week.
- Google Googles is baked into the ROM by default (also standard in Android 2.1-U1).
- The Droid’s home screen remains as is — no new rotating app thingy instead of the drawer, and no live wallpapers.
- The news and weather widget from the Nexus One will be included.
Google To Do Superbowl Ad?
Well maybe I will watch the Superbowl! Looks like Google might have a little something for us in the way of an of a commercial. That or is the Nexus One going to do a crazy halftime show?

Windows 7 Details Leak, No Multitasking, XBOX Integration
PPCGeeks Has got some pretty juicy details on Windows 7. Looks like Microsoft is trying to regain control over the OS and have a larger part of the whole process. I think this is a smart move for them, as right now Windows Mobile needs a complete reboot. Here are all the details
-At the Mobile World Congress event on February 15th, 2010, Windows Phone 7 will be unveilved, although at this time plans are only to unveil the user interface of the new platform . Specific indepth functionality of the device will most likely not be shown.
-The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
-Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
-Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible.
- No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background, however will support notifications via push notifications.
-Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API
-No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
-Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
-Full Zune Integration
-Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC.
-OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
-Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
-Full support for social networking
Open Home 4.3 is out fro Android with nice new features
I love Open Home fro Android. It really lets you do anything to your home screen you want. They have just released and update, 4.3 to be exact, which actually brings some Android 2.1 features to any Android device. Check out the full details below from Better Android’s blog:
Yes, we released an update today again
It has the same screen indicators as you would find in Android 2.1’s default Home screen. Long pressing the indicators will also give you a screen switcher just like in Android 2.1. We also added a fancier animation to home switcher to make it look even cooler. Enjoy!
We are pleased to announce that Open Home (full version) is not now at its 4th major version v4.x . Here is a list of note-worthy changes/enhancements/features/bug fixes:
- Allow users to set the default fonts to any home screen widgets. Please note that only default fonts are changed because some widgets have custom fonts and we don’t want to give override them. (menu/more/font & color/Widget font)
- Performance enhancements from android 2.1, now home screen scrolling is much smoother, force close issues are gone for Motorola Droid and HTC Nexus One
- More home screen animations and effects, including an experimental 3D cube transition effect (menu/more/Open home setting/3D cube)
- Live Wallpaper is now supported on Nexus One
- Home Chooser’s default setting check box now works as it should (menu/more/home chooser)
Enjoy!
