Without a doubt the two hottest device that are actually out right now (the Droid isn’t out yet) are the Palm Pre and the HTC Hero. Both devices are real contenders in the smartphone world and it’s really tough to choose between the two. The Hero runs Android which has 10,000 or so apps, a year of updates behind it, and HTC has customized the crap out of the Hero with Sense UI. On the other hand the Palm Pre’s webOS came out of the gate swinging with tons of polish. Palm app store has a little over 200 apps, but is growing everyday. So which device do you choose?
When most blog/sites get a review unit they only have the phones for a brief period of time. It’s great to get some one’s initial opinion on the device, but it’s hard to get a real world idea of how a device will preform over a long period of time. So for the sake of my readers/listeners, I am going to do a 30 day showdown between the HTC Hero and the Palm Pre. Now full disclosure, I stole this idea from Michael Manna, but none the less its a great idea and I am going to do it.
For the next 30 days I will be using both devices everyday and reporting back my findings. I will go over my normal usage so everyone will have an idea on what to expect. Of course if you guys have questions or specific requests shoot me a message on Twitter or leave a comment on this post.
One the average day I do around 400-500 text messages, mild email, almost no talking, a whole bunch of Twitter, lots of web browsing, and 45-60 minutes of music. Of course I also check the various app stores daily and download new apps pretty much everyday. Also, on occasion, I watch videos on my phone during lunch.
So that sums it up for the way I use my phone on the average day. Like I said, if you guys want to know specific things let me know I will be glad to answer anything I can.
Let the showdown begin!!!!
