One of the biggest surprises on the mobile front was the Motorola BACKFLIP. It’s not the OS running on the phone, but the the design of the phone. It features a unique flip design that was surprisingly comfortable. When closed, the keyboard is on the back of the phone and it isn’t that noticeable. When flipped open, the keyboard and camera are facing you. The camera is rear facing when closed, and front-facing when flipped open. Though it doesn’t come with any software for video conferencing out of the box, there is a good chance the camera can be utilized by 3rd parties for such feature (unless AT&T or Motorola disable the video API when flipped open).
Other than the design, the phone features Android w/ MOTOBlur, which is exactly the same as the CLIQ. Though the exhibitor wouldn’t say what carrier it was heading to, AT&T mentioned the BackFlip coming to them. Those who want a solid social focused device and are on AT&T, this is definitely the device to look at. Look forward to a Guru Inspection on the Motorola BACKFLIP later this year.
