Tawkon is an app that displays the amount of radiation your cell phone is emitting. Unfortunately it uses undocumented APIs, so Apple has rejected it from the app store. Needless to say this app is something I am sure people would want on their phone and find extremeley useful. The developers of Tawkon have also used this app to show you how the “Death Grip” effects your phone as well. Take a look at the video below to see.
If you’re interested in Tawkon, take a look at this statement from the developers we received.
“The app is called tawkon, and it leverages smartphone capabilities such as Bluetooth, motion and proximity sensors, GPS and more to give you real-time estimates of the radiation emitting from your phone. When radiation crosses a pre-defined threshold, tawkon will alert you during a call and suggest a way to lower the radiation you’re being exposed to.
BlackBerry users have a version for download, and Android users can expect theirs to be ready later this summer. Apple’s Director of Application Technology, Philip Shoemaker, met with tawkon this spring. Despite progress made in that Cupertino meeting, things appear stalled.
That was before San Francisco passed the U.S.’ first-ever law requiring cell phone retailers to display phones’ radiation levels. A grassroots effort is now underway to show Apple the level of popular support the app has and remind them that people want the ability to use their iPhones smarter. The campaign includes a petition and avideo “Letter to Apple.”
Download screenshots or view tawkon in action here. And if you would like to try/review tawkon for yourself, please send me your UDID and I’ll send you the files of a complementary version. Read about the technology behind the app here.
If you think your readers really do want to see this app for sale in the App Store and you want to help them get it, we’d love your help driving traffic to the petition and video letter.”
