Hulu to Require Cable Subscription to Stream Content?

30. April, 2012 News No comments

According to the NY Post, Hulu may begin requiring users to authenticate that they have a cable package before being able to stream video content. We have already seen this type of authentication required by apps like HBO Go and Showtime’s mobile app, but Hulu has always been traditionally free and subsidized by ads. With more and more people cutting the cord, looking to the internet for their entertainment needs, cable and entertainment companies are looking to secure their profits.

If this is true, it’s a pretty dick move. Hulu already has so many disadvantages like delayed viewing, web only content, and shrinking partner agreements, this could be what finally kills the service. What this will means for people who are already paying for Hulu Plus is unknown, as is when this shift could happen. Stay tuned.
