LightSquared calls BS on GPS Interference testing

LightSquared recently got the news that their network would not be able to operate due to interference to the GPS signal. This is a huge blow to the progression that they were pushing towards and now LightSquared is saying that the results are inaccurate and rigged. In a recent press release they say they are using obsolete equipment to test interference. LightSquare also points out their is no way that can provide real life experiences with their testing procedures. LightSquared has big plans, including pushing Sprint’s LTE Network along with other carriers. We can’t see this not being worked out in the future but it sounds like both parties are not going to go down without a fight.

Dish Network would buy T-Mobile

The T-Mobile and At&t merger saga is still going, but who knows if it will ever take place. If it doesn’t, the CEO of Dish Network, Joseph Clayton has said that he would love to partner with T-Mobile for their spectrum. Dish has already been buying spectrum up this year with a LTE network planned to try to take on Verizon and At&t. They are even looking to Sprint if they have to, either way, the carrier wars keep getting interesting as time rolls by.

Sprint Switching to LTE in 2012

Sprint ignored every other carrier and their decisions to upgrade their networks to LTE and they went with the WiMax Technology. That is what their 4G has been for the last year or so and now, they say that they are going to switch their network over to LTE in 2012.

The LTE will be ran on Sprint’s 1900MHz Spectrum and LightSquared’s 1600MHz spectrum. The network will start rolling out mid-2012 and they will continue WiMax support for the devices that currently utilize it. This isn’t a bad plan but it seems that Sprint keeps digging holes and getting their self deeper. Hopefully this change, along with getting the iPhone will be what they need to get back to where they should be.

Sprint Getting New Blackberry Phones this Fall

AT&T has always been the carrier known to get the latest Blackberry phones previously, but now Sprint is getting some flagship devices from RIM this fall, the Bold 9930 and the Torch 9850. Both phones will be sporting RIM’s latest iteration of their OS Blackberry 7.

The new Bold is Blackberry’s thinnest smartphone to date coming in at 10.5MM thick and sports the famous physical QWERTY keyboard that most Blackberry owners have been known to love. The newest Torch has the biggest screen that has been on a Blackberry phone to date at 3.7 inches.

These phones processors have been pushed up to 1.2GHZ and have Liquid Graphics Technology for fast and smooth performance and very responsive touchscreen. It sounds like Blackberry is pushing the right way in this new hardware but it is more of the same. Is this what they need paired with Sprint and other carriers to stay prevalent in the game?
