EVO Having Wi-Fi Issues?

June 7th, 2010 Nic Ball No comments

HTC EVO

We’ve been reading accross the web today that the EVO is having serious issues with WiFi…seems the signal strength is very subpar. Hope is this is a software issue and not just a crappy hardware issue. Maybe it performs better on 802.11n? Let us know what you’re experience has been.

Qik Trips and Falls Flat

So you launch a new device that does something ‘magical’ and then the software partner behind the magic has a bit of an off day. Welcome to EVO and Qik – “Behind the Lense”

Seems that while Qik was behind all this two-way-video-chat business they forgot to build up their system to handle the launch day load. I don’t have hard facts here on how many EVO’s were tossed into the wild on launch day, but I do know that even Sprint’s system couldnt keep up with the madness that is EVO.

The short version…it failed and Qik pulled the app from the market…they’ll be back when they figure this mess out.

First things first it is big. Like really big. I feel that it’s not too big, but I can see a lot of people being turned off by that. The screen while huge isn’t nearly as impressive as the HTC Incredible. The obvious new feature is the forward facing camera. We all know it does video chat using Qik, but it also allows you to take pictures using the front camera. This is nice for doing updates to profile pictures for Facebook and Twitter, something that requires awkward trial and error on other handsets. Getting Sprint’s other software features add to the total value of the device. If you’re down with Sprint then this is an great phone.

The store I went to today sold out in 15mins. 6 phones sold with 7 being held with deposit.
