Google Goggles Gets Boost From Plink
Google has acquired Plink, a UK based visual search company for a yet to be disclosed amount. Plink is a leading edge company that has focused via a 4month public program the ability to visually search art. You download app, and then take picture of painting and it tells you all about it. Great niche app. Clearly Google sees the potential of adding Plink into the Goggles fold.
Plinks founder Mark Cumming and James Philbin will both be assimilated working on the Goggles team helping to integrate their technology into Google’s dream of big brother. This is all part of Google’s plan to absorb a company every month until they own everything. Apparently this is in the ‘pursuit’ of improved and expanded line of services.
At CES we were shown Nokia’s visual search. It had the added ability of users to create and label the items and adding them to the centralized database. This gives the added feature of the more people use it the faster and more accurate it becomes.
In the words of Liam Neeson.”Unleash the Goggles!” that IS what he said, right?
